since i'm a fan of 'Criminal Minds', i thought i would read this book just to see how it compares to the real thing. i wasn't disappointed at all. i couldn't stop once i started. it gives you some real insight on the real cases that inspired some of the episodes and so much more.

In a quote on the cover of Kristeva's first novel, Elaine Showalter equates the Bulgarian-born critic and psychoanalyst with Simone de Beauvoir. Like de Beauvoir, Kristeva was at the center of an intellectual movement, and like de Beauvoir she has written a roman a clef about French intellectuals, the "brave samurai . . . fueled by an extreme of tension, an expenditure of energy, that may threaten one's vital equilibrium." Unfortunately, an "extreme of tension" does not fuel this novel, which by all rights should be a gripping account from the intellectual front. As an integral part of the magazine Tel Quel (she was married to its editor, Phillipe Sollers), Kristeva knew firsthand the likes of Barthes, Derrida, Foucault and Lacan--all of whom appear here. But no matter how often Kristeva writes "what you say is marvelous," no character--not even her fictional stand-in, Olga--is as compelling to the reader as they evidently were to the writer. The image left by Kristeva's account of the various intellectual posturings--through Paris, China and the U. S.; through love, adultery, sex and even childbirth--is one of self-congratulatory narcissists unimpeded by any real concern for enlightenment.

Kristeva combines her knowledge of psychoanalysis, politics, and linguistics in this novel about the leftist intelligentsia of Paris in the late 1960s. Olga, a young scholar from Eastern Europe, becomes involved in the literary circle and falls in love with its leader, Herve Sinteuil. Others in the circle are modeled after well-known scholars. They participate in student riots, visit China, and live somewhat decadent lives. The title identifies them as modern counterparts of the Japanese warriors who also were poets and calligraphers and who were completely willing to face death in order to experience everything. Both sensual and brilliantly written, this novel is full of ideas and will appeal to thinkers. Recommended for public and academic libraries.

Alex Kendrick is associate pastor of movie outreach for Sherwood Baptist Church. He is also an actor, writer, and director whose film credits include Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Courageous. He and his wife, Christina, have six children.

Stephen Kendrick is a speaker, screenwriter, and producer whose film credits include Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Courageous.  Stephen co-authored the New York Times bestsellers The Love Dare and The Resolution for Men. He is an associate pastor of preaching and prayer at Sherwood Church and serves on the board of the Fatherhood CoMission. Stephen and his wife, Jill, have six children.

Get ready to to go to war!!!

Best prayer study book I've read in a very long time. Just like the movie "War Room" this step by step outline on going to battle through prayer is fantastic. I feel like there's nothing nor no one that I can't pray for! Definite great addition to your daily prayer and bible study.

NO VIDEOS, without the book is useless.

I ordered two books, one for myself and one for a gift. I was so sad to see you need to buy additional videos to actually utilize the great efforts of this book. The videos are expensive when you have to buy each individually. I am hoping there is another solution to this problem without having to go through the hassle of returning. I wish the description would have been precise. Saying exactly what this book is, and how to use it. I think there was too much emphasis placed on the author. This should be a link connecting the authors Amazon page. People want to know about the book, not the life story of the author.

About the Author
David C. M. Dickson is Professor of Actuarial Studies in the Department of Economics at the University of Melbourne. He has twice been awarded the H. M. Jackson Prize of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, most recently for his book Insurance Risk and Ruin (Cambridge University Press, 2005).

Mary R. Hardy holds the CIBC Chair in Financial Risk Management at the University of Waterloo, Ontario. She is a Fellow of the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and of the Society of Actuaries, and has won awards and commendations for her research. In 2013 Hardy was awarded the Finlaison Medal of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries for services to the actuarial profession, in research, teaching and governance.

Howard R. Waters is Professor in the Department of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, by whom he was awarded the Finlaison Medal for services to the actuarial profession in 2006.

This solution manual is a must for the book! It took forever to find the write edition to match my book edition but this was it! All the pdf versions of the solution manual didnt line up completely with the problems in the text but this one did the trick! All the problems in the (even and odds) are available and well written

About the Author
Robert S. Feldman is Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Deputy Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. A recipient of the College Distinguished Teacher Award, he teaches classes ranging in size from 10 to nearly 500 students. During the course of more than two decades as a college instructor, he has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at Mount Holyoke College, Wesleyan University, and Virginia Commonwealth University in addition to the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

A Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science, Professor Feldman received a B.A. with High Honors from Wesleyan University (and from which he received the Distinguished Alumni Award). He has an MS and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a winner of a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar and Lecturer award, and he has written more than 200 books, book chapters, and scientific articles. He has edited Development of Nonverbal Behavior in Children (Springer-Verlag) and Applications of Nonverbal Behavioral Theory and Research (Erlbaum), and co-edited Fundamentals of Nonverbal Behavior (Cambridge University Press). He is also author of Development Across the Life Span, Understanding Psychology, and P.O.W.E.R. Learning: Strategies for Success in College and Life. His books have been translated into many languages, including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Dutch, Chinese, Korean, German, Arabic, Tagalog, and Japanese, and more than 2.5 million students have used his textbooks.

Professor Feldman’s research interests include honesty and deception in everyday life, work that he described in The Liar in Your Life, a trade book published in 2009. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Disabilities and Rehabilitation Research.  He is also president of the Federation of Associations in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences Foundation, an organization that promotes the social sciences, and a member of the board of New England Public Radio.

Professor Feldman loves music, is an enthusiastic pianist, and enjoys cooking and traveling. He has three children and two young grandsons. He and his wife, a psychologist, live in western Massachusetts in a home overlooking the Holyoke Mountain Range.
