About the Author
Dr. Dicken Weatherby is one of the world’s leading experts in Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis. He graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland Oregon in 1998. His bestselling book “Blood Chemistry and CBC Analysis – Clinical Laboratory testing from a Functional Perspective“, has become one of the seminal texts on the Functional Analysis of blood test results. In response to the increased demand for his training material Dr. Weatherby put together his "Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis Training Program" at Blood Chemistry University, which walks physicians and health care practitioners through the process of analyzing their patients' blood test results from a more functional, nutritional, and preventative. In depth Nutritional Analysis workbook
By J. Saffell
For myself, I became aware of the NAQ (Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire) a few years ago through my FNP who was also a nutritional therapist. The NAQ assisted her in identifying specific digestive issues that were causing some severe health problems. Quite frankly I think she saved my life through the NAQ. Since the FNP has left our region, Weatherby's book provides me with the working tools to continue connecting the dots between my symptoms, nutritional status and health issues and enables me to ask informed questions of my health care providers.

This is a excellent, in-depth question by question discussion guide to the 'Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire 1.5'. The book has been 'recommended reading' by the Nutritional Therapy Association in their training program. A complete NAQ questionnaire is included. Note: while the book says you can get digital copies of some of the materials, I was not able to acquire a digital questionnaire copy by sending emails as directed by the book. But after doing a thorough search on Google, I was able located PDF copies of the forms matching those in the book. Or you could simply scan in the forms and charts from the book to make working copies.

The book's approach is 'functional medicine' and the intended target audience is health care professionals, dieticians, nutritional counselors, not the nutritional newbie. That being said, I think anyone with a good understanding of nutrition fundamentals and a lively interest in functional medicine could utilize the information in this book. The book, as a teaching text about how to interpret the results of an NAQ, makes specific recommendations for further assessment as well as generic supplemental support. It's a great resource for the pro-active patient.

Since it is an expensive book, I'd encourage people to preview portions of the text through Google Books. That way you'd have some idea if the book will be useful to you. Many of the 'further assessment recommendations' would probably need to be accomplished through a health care provider, but there's certainly enough assessment tips that could be accomplished at home. The nutritional information is very valuable to me because it's symptom specific. The recommendations on supplements is important because it's generic and not tied to a specific brand of products.

I consider this a valuable addition to my family health library and a good investment.

Easy to read. I wish this book was spiral bound so that I could copy easier the pages I need to review. It does not lay totally flat on the printer therefore some of the type is missing on some pages of this approx 1 1/2" book.

Did you know the symptom "Fingernails chip, peal or break easily" is an Upper Gastrointestinal System disfunction? Or "Dry Flaky Skin" is in the section Essential Fatty Acids. EFA deficiency is often due to hilary dysfunction. Each Symptom has Supplemental Suport to help this disfunction.

"Awaken a few hour after falling asleep, hard to get back to sleep?", this is a Blood Sugar Dys-regulation problem. It is a classis sign of low blood sugar. At night the blood sugar begins to drop, especially around 1 am. Book recommends keeping a diet diary to indicate the kind of meal that you ate. This book says, this is a temporary solution. Other indications are a B vitamin deficiency or serotonin/melatonin imbalance. Nutritional supplementation to support blood sugar handling problems, beet juice, pancreatic tissue (neonatal bovine) is listed.

This book is one that is used by Nutritional Therapists therefore contains functional evaluation points to test clients pain or tenderness rating in the areas of the body. For example, the Nutritional Therapist will check for the tenderness in the Chapman reflex for the liver as indicated in the book for blood sugar Dys-regulation.

This book is used in conjunction with the NAQ used by the NT. (Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire) which includes questions regarding diet, lifestyle and medications, and then the client rates their symptom burdon 321 questions.

This book is a required book for use in the Nutritional Therapy Training and is used very often during the course. The back section of the book has an Appendix: Diet and Lifestyle Handouts: "Foods to Focus On" and "Foods to Avoid," "Dysbiosis Diet-for Control of Candida, Bacteria, Viruses, & Parsites," "Food Sources for Calcium," and "Foods to Avoid on a Gluten-Free Diet." etc.

From Booklist
Doggett says the four Beatles’ individual efforts will never match the magic they created as a foursome. Yet the story of the post-breakup Beatles is intriguing and fascinating in its own right. Doggett begins at the end, with the 1980 murder of John Lennon outside the Dakota apartment building in New York, then turns back to the late-1960s, when Sgt. Pepper was released and the glow of the group’s innocent days had long dimmed. In that tumultuous time, the foundation of the band’s eventual demise several years later was laid. Doggett captures the competitive sparks that flew among the four men, especially between Lennon and Paul McCartney, and also the mutual affection that formed the basis of their complicated relationships. He covers all the many lawsuits and legal maneuverings that consumed so much of their time as well as the feelings of anger and betrayal and the weariness of it all. And he discusses each member’s solo albums. A must for Beatles fans and good for more casual pop-music enthusiasts, too. --June Sawyers

Review
“What Doggett has achieved is a laying bare of the darker consequences of enormous fame and wealth. Yes, there is the glory but there’s also the concomitant pressure of how to deal with the myth and the legacy – while trying to keep four very different voices in harmony.”

From the Back Cover

The world stopped in 1970 when Paul McCartney announced that he was through with the Beatles. Though the Beatles’ breakup was widely viewed as a cultural tragedy, one of the most fascinating phases of their story was just beginning.

In You Never Give Me Your Money, journalist Peter Doggett tells the behind-the-scenes story of the personal rivalries and legal feuds that have dominated the Beatles’ lives since 1969. It is both a compelling human drama and an equally rich and absorbing story of the creative and financial empire the band members set up to safeguard their interests but that ultimately controlled their lives. You Never Give Me Your Money charts the Shakespearean battles between Lennon and McCartney, George Harrison’s raging inner conflict between spirituality and fame, and the struggle with alcoholism that nearly cost Richard Starkey his life. From tragedy to triumphant reconciliation, from individual chart success to bitter courtroom battles, this meticulously researched work tells the previously untold story of a group and a legacy that will never be forgotten.

The Sad Life (and sometimes death) of Richard, George, Paul and John
By Bornintime
I've probably read a couple hundred books about music and musicians, but only about 15 or 20 on the Beatles. Out of all those books I can't say that this one was the most enjoyable, but it was certainly one of the most profound, the one that made me think the most about the vast chasm between myth and reality. Peter Doggett has been researching and writing and living the Beatles for decades so he is as qualified as anyone to write this book. It is the story of the actual men behind the phenomenon, what they have had to live (or die) through day by day and year by year. I'm not an expert but I don't suppose that there is much in the way of new revelations here but the presentation is certainly different. It doesn't spend a lot of time in exaltation of the music. We all know, the author as much as anyone, what this music and this band has meant both to popular culture and to us individually. We all understand, and there have been countless books and articles detailing it, the sense of joy, freedom, and hope that came from those songs. That's not discussed much here. What is discussed is the day to day reality of these men (flawed as you and I), the repercussions of being one of THE BEATLES, the unrealistic hopes and dreams of millions constantly laid on their all too mortal shoulders over decades. Seen for what it is, stripped of the myth, I often found it more brutal than desirable. Doggett simply reports what happened. He doesn't often draw conclusions for us.

From the beginning the Beatles were a vast source of untold wealth and everybody wanted a piece. Bad business decisions abounded from the beginning. The worst was probably turning things over to Allen Klein after Brian Epstein's death. Much of this book is given over to the repercussions of this action and the subsequent fallout between McCartney and the others. It was tedious to just read about all the lawsuits and legal maneuvers over many years. I can only imagine the stress living through it, month after month, year after year.

We get a sense throughout the book how ill equipped the individual Beatles were to deal with their lives - the insecurities mostly hidden from the public. Ringo struggling through decades battling alcohol and drug addiction, all the while creating work that no one really noticed except as nostalgia because he was a Beatle. Paul - constantly insecure by the comparisons between him and Lennon in which he always seemed to come up short (often unjustly). This was only magnified by John's death and Yoko Ono's constant subtle, passive aggressive comments that put Paul second to John in everything. John - fearful and directionless, subject to following his whims to ridiculous extremes in both his personal life and recording career. George - holding a grudge against Paul for years because he felt slighted and controlled for most of their time in the Beatles. After John's death in constant fear for his safety - a fear that turned out to be all too justified when a man broke into his fortress and tried to take his life. George's deliberately humorous comment was that the man wasn't there to try out for the Traveling Wilburys. The harsh reality was that George came very close to death that day, being stabbed 40 times in a brutal attack. This is exactly the thing that the author ably reveals - the vast difference between the carefree fantasy perpetuated and believed, and the truth of their lives. The constant questions and speculations about a Beatles reunion, even after John's death. It's all quite relentless and, when presented in this manner, seems to indicate the fame of these 4 men was more of a burden than a blessing. But that's just my impression; as I said the author doesn't draw conclusions or tell you how to feel. The most heartbreaking thing to me was how George could not even get any peace during his actual time of dying. One of his medical staff insisted on subjecting him to a song played by the man's son on guitar. He then practically forced him to sign an autograph and had to hold his hand since George didn't have the strength to sign by himself.

I think we have all, to some extent, looked at The Beatles through rose colored glasses - as if their lives were lived in some kind of golden haze, that anyone lucky enough to be in their inner circle was blessed to dwell among the gods. This book certainly shows how wrong we were.

The Beatles, the business and how it tore and kept them apart
By Wayne Klein
Mojo and Q writer Peter Doggett tackles one of the most difficult subject in The Beatles mythology in You Never Give Me Your Money: The Beatles After the Breakup. Doggett focuses on the hurricane of success that led to the band's break up and kept these four friends who went through the excitement/hell of Beatlemania together apart--the business of The Beatles, their own egos and all the baggage they carried into and out of their relationship(s) as former partners. The Beatles was truly always bigger than all of them separately and for them to carry on in the shadow of a monster was difficult--they were always individually measured against the sucess of The Beatles something much bigger than John, Paul, George and Ringo individually.

The first third of the book is devoted to The Beatles before and on the cusp of the break up including a discussion of Allen Klein, the Eastmans and the legal issues/conflicts between those outside of the Beatles camp and inside. The majority of the book though focuses everything from the petty (George stating sarcastically suggesting that Paul talked about recording some of John's songs because he ran out of good ones himself) to the major (the conflict between George, Ringo and Yoko when Paul set up a higher royalty rate that tied into his solo career but also effected his Beatles recordings as well that the other three weren't privy to).

"You Never Give Me Your Money" focuses on the legal squabbles and difficulties that John, Paul, George and Ringo faced in the aftermath of their massive success. The band faced friends who robbed them, each other in courtrooms,EMI the company they recorded for and their own personal demons of living up to the reputation that was bigger than all of them. Dogget documents McCartney's struggle with standing in the shadow of a former collaborator who suddenly became an icon; Harrison's attempt to escape being just a Beatle and Ringo surfing on his charm only to fall into a pit of drugs and alcohol. This isn't the first book to focus on the business/legal/ego issues that surrounded the Beatle money making machine (The Longest Cocktail Party and Apple to the Core both did to some degree) but this is the first one to give us a comprehensive look into their post-Beatle lives/business dealings with each other.

Doggett's book is well researched covering everything from the difficult conflict for control of the band between business savvy Allen Klein and the Eastman family to Harrison's financial troubles and McCartney's massive publishing empire. He details the cold/warm relationship between McCartney and Ono quite well. While Doggett does discuss the music he doesn't focus on it--instead he focuses on the people who made it and how they struggled to survive in the wake of one of the most successful and ripped off bands of all time.

Even though it is well researched there are a couple of minor errors that weren't corrected from the British edition--former Wings member at one point is referred to as a guitarist (he was the drummer and later is referred to in another section as the drummer for Wings), "The Beatles-Alpha & Omega" which had commericals airing on TV in 1973 in the U.S. is referred to as "The Beatles Story" (an album title for a 1964 Capitol Records release)and the ads are mentioned as airing on ABC-TV (it wasn't on the networks but on the affiliates). There's also no mention of the lawsuit that George Harrison filed against Ringo Starr related to Ringo recording his song "I'll Still Love You" or the fact that Ringo razzed George about it in an interview. It's possible that these might have been dropped for one reason or another during the editing stage of the book) but on the whole Doggett does an excellent job.

There's a mix of new and older information that's collated nicely by Doggett. Doggett brings it all together with some new insights into the situations The Beatles faced. You Never Give Me Your Money gives us a peek into the insanity (sometimes of their own making sometimes not)that continued to surround The Beatles after their "divorce". Recommended.

Clears Up A Lot of Mysteries For Me
By Rob Mattheu
As a rabid classic rock fan, I always wondered why the Beatles seemed to have completely ignored the CD era. Almost every band of the sixties saw their CDs issued two, three, four or more times in the 20 plus years CDs have existed. Until 2009, the Beatles saw theirs issued once. Why would the band pass up the opportunity to make money on their songs? Why would they deny their fans the opportunity to hear the CDs cleaned up with bonus tracks and other goodies?

After reading You Never Give Me Your Money, the answer becomes clear. From the late 60's on, the Beatles were rarely on the same page on anything, and with the exception of Ringo, all three seemed to be on opposite sides of ambivilent or excited about the propsects of reuniting at any given time.

You Never Give Me Your Money opens on the event that forever ensured that the Beatles would be shattered, the death of John Lennon. This event becomes the turning point for the group not just because the co-frontman for the group is dead, but because his widow, Yoko Ono, essentially becomes the fourth Beatle in negotiations and discussions. By the end of the book, it is clear that Yoko controlled John in life, and her grip in death ensured that any activity envolving the Beatles would not be for the joy of making music, but a business transaction in which the image of John was the most important thing.

Truthfully, no Beatle comes off great here. Paul is seen as the consumate hard working musician who leads a life of diminishing musical returns. He's bossy, a bit delusional, and always trying to boost his self esteem and position with his mates in the band. As portrayed here, Paul fancied himself the most talented, but always had an inferiority complex when it came to John, something Yoko Ono did her best to exploit. Still, Paul seems to distance himself from the party and hard drugs lifestyle that the others sought in varying amounts. He also seems the most business savvy, pleading in the final years of the group for the rest of them not to go with the shady Allen Klein, and then investing in both himself and others to build a publishing empire that would make him far wealthier than any of the group.

John comes off as a bit of a waste himself, submersing himself in drugs and the attention seeking of Yoko Ono, he gains a reputation as being the socially conscious Beatle, but appears bored with embracing any message for too long. He rejects the Beatles at first, but then seems to warm to a reunion, apparently ready to work with Paul again during his "lost weekend" when he was estranged from Yoko, only to have her reel him back in at the last second and essentially see him retire from music. He seems to toy with Paul, who wants to stay friends, by bringing him close then rejecting him with equal ease. Much is made of John's need for a strong domineering woman in his life, a role Yoko fills incredibly well

George appears to be the Beatle most resentful of their legacy. Angry at John for dismissing his talent and Paul for Paul's ego and domineering nature, George seems to relish being out of the band and their shadow. He embraces the mystical and the secular in equal order and seems mostly to feel that the Beatles are part of his past that he need not revisit. Only when money becomes tight does he embrace the idea of a reunion, and then only on his terms with his producer.

Ringo comes off the kindest but most lost. With minimal songwriting or solo talents, and little hope of hooking back up with his friends, he pursues his addictions with a vengeance, eventually sobering up, but finding sobriety hard to keep when there is so little to occupy his attention.

But ultimately it is Yoko who is the person that shapes the post breakup years of the Beatles. From You Never Give Me Your Money, you get the sense that Yoko essentially threw the balance off in the Beatles. Whereas the other three had wives and girlfriends, they seldom became part of the music or the group's scene. Yoko joined John at the hip and rode his coattails the entire way. When John died, with him died the chance that the Beatles could reunite, with him or without him. One gets the sense that had he lived, the four might eventually have decided to bury the hatchet later in life and reform, or at least play together occasionally. Instead, Yoko created the image of John as Lennon first, Beatle second, and worked to cultivate the myth that he was the leader, the most talented, and the most historically significant Beatle.

Ironically, the moment that sums up what Yoko is like comes not in the narrative of the book at all, but in a brief note in the acknowledgements. Writer Peter Doggett provides a summary of people he talked to for the book and a bit about the circumstances he met them in. Under Yoko, he mentions that he met her at the Hyde Park Hotel. "Just as she was telling me that she would now have to face the world alone without John, there was an ill-timed male cough from her bathroom. She looked embarrasedly in that direction and changed the subject." For Yoko, the image of John's memory and her as his widow seems more important than the man or his music. It's as though Priscilla Presley morphed into Colonel Parker.

You Never Give Me Your Money is an excellent portrait of the post breakup Beatles. Recommended.

A TExES Study Guide Unlike Any Other

If you'd like to get the TExES score you deserve, to quit worrying about whether your score on the TExES is "good enough," and to beat the test taking game, then this might be the most important message you read this year.

Our comprehensive study guide for the TExES is written by our TExES experts, who painstakingly researched the topics and the concepts that you need to know to do your best on the TExES. Our original research into the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES), offered by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and Educational Testing Service (ETS), reveals the specific content areas and the essential skills that are critical for you to know on the TExES. We've taken the information and developed a study guide that is guaranteed to help you be successful on the TExES.

Regardless of which TExES test you have to take- you have come to the right place. Here you will find everything you need to know in order to be successful and get your certification.

Now, we know you may be skeptical, so let us give you three good reasons we can back up what we claim:

The Three Reasons To Believe What We Say

The First Reason:

Our company's name is Mometrix Test Preparation, and we have a team of standardized test researchers who have worked on developing our study guide for the TExES. The standards for who gets to work on the team are very strict- we demand the best for our customers, and only those who met our exacting standards made the cut. The dedicated research staff have years of combined experience in mastering the content and skills necessary to succeed on the toughest exams.

The Second Reason:

Some academic studies have revealed that test takers do not really benefit from the traditional test preparation process. But we knew there had to be a solution- if test takers were not doing well on the TExES despite high intelligence, there had to be a set of secret keys to the test that would open the door of success for these test takers.

We believe we have succeeded in finding the secret keys of the exam. What we found was surprising, and in some cases ridiculously simple once explained to the average test taker.

We put the findings together in a thorough, concise study guide that we believe allows any test taker, at any skill level, to improve his or her results dramatically with a minimum of effort.

The Third Reason:

We created the product in part because we were frustrated by the options available to test takers who really wanted to do well on the TExES.

A common approach is to TEACH the material, instead of TEACHING THE TEST. That's not necessarily good enough for the TExES- you have to know how to apply the knowledge. Most test takers already have a general knowledge of the material that will be covered on the exam.

One reason some test takers do well on the day of the test is that they have made the critical connection between the material they learned and how to use the material to succeed on the TExES.

Our guide addresses the difference between merely knowing the material and knowing how to use the material to perform on test day.

You're going to save time, money, and aggravation. You'll learn to avoid the mistakes and the bad strategies that you've been vulnerable to. --Just for starters, here are some ways our product can help your score on the TExES...

The Exclusive Test Taking Techniques

  • Explains how the TExES time limits are the #1 enemy of most test takers, and what you can do about it- You avoid falling into the many "time traps" built into the test, giving you an immeasurable advantage over those who go into the test unaware
  • Shows you super speed methods to get through the questions you know with ease- Saving you time so you concentrate on the hardest questions without rushing
  • Get quick, customized help for the questions you have- just send us a quick email and we'll get back to you promptly with the answer.
  • Keys to questions that "give away" the wrong (or right) answers- You get credit for some of the questions without really even knowing anything about them
  • Details the EXACT STUDY PLAN for the TExES that we believe gives the most results in the least time- No matter if you're studying for a week or a month, you won't waste the precious study time you have on useless activities
  • Our researchers are more than just academic theoreticians who understand the technical nature of standardized tests, but are also experts on test taking itself- they reveal the exact skills and the information you'll need to perform under pressure during the test.
  • A systematic analysis and the best breakdown into "plain language" of how to deconstruct and master complex problems- You turn the problems that most of the test takers will stumble over to your advantage
  • Learn why, when, and how to guess to your advantage. Many test takers use exactly the wrong strategy, but you can avoid the pitfalls with the help of our standardized test experts
  • The secret keys that "gives away" the right answer a lot of the time- You know the special "flags" and the specific "giveaways" to look for
  • Includes instructions detailing the best way for you to get started with your preparation efforts so you can begin the path of improving your scores immediately
  • The most efficient and accurate method for picking the right answer- You won't be scratching your head trying to read the mind of the test question writer, but will instead know exactly what to look for to pick the best answer
  • Our quick problem solving method for difficult problems- You speed right through these notorious time-wasters
  • Courteous, unlimited customer service is 100% free- if you need the product emailed to a different address, lose the product, or have any other difficulty- the help you need is just a short email away and our representatives are active 7 days a week helping customers
  • The research of our team of test experts is 100% independent and original
  • Our exclusive "calibration strategy" to help you never go too fast OR too slow when answering even the toughest questions
  • The 5-step process we've developed, what we call the "phased" approach, concerning the use of the various study aids and practice tests
  • How the problem of procrastination can kill your chance of success, and the most important thing you can do about it
  • How to know when you've studied as much as you need to for the exam- and the reason why we think some people should spend LESS time studying for the test
  • The Top 20 things you should take care of within 24 hours of taking the test- use the list we provide as a checklist to make sure you've taken care of the "little things" in addition to studying hard
  • How to predict the right answer before you see the answer choices- and how to prevent the wrong answers from "polluting" your mind and tempting you into a trap designed by the test writers --
  • Why answers that "sound" correct are often the very ones that are wrong- and how to tell the difference between the right answer and the many clever-sounding traps set for you by the test writers

  • Do you know what a "hedge phrase" is? Learn why looking for the key "weasel words" in the question can help identify the correct answer
  • Why "new information" in the answer choices almost always means that the answer choice is wrong- and the way to avoid this trick planted by the clever test writers
  • Learn to avoid this time-draining mistake on the test - why the technical terms you don't know can be a major stumbling block and waste precious time, and the way that you can work around them
  • The secret to using the contextual clues in the questions and the answer choices to make important distinctions between the right and the wrong answer choices
  • The two situations where you should NOT check your answers thoroughly
  • How to avoid careless mistakes by using the quick "double check" system. It will more than pay for itself relative to the time it will take you
  • Test writers will often quote directly from the question in an answer- learn whether this is something you should trust or avoid
  • Why "extreme statements" in the answer choices are dead giveaways for wrong answers- find out how to detect the subtle differences between reasonable answers and the answers that are almost always wrong
  • Learn how to group your answer choices into "families" that often narrows down the pool of correct answers- this is a quick way to immediately eliminate one or two of the answer choices and increase your odds of getting the question right

Now, you're probably wondering how and why we can do all the things we claim.

Let us explain.

Before we go any further, let us clarify what TExES Secrets is not. It is not a stale rehash of all of the things you have already learned in the past.

TExES Secrets is our exclusive collection of the tips and the information that we have specially selected to give you the best results on the TExES for the least time spent studying. It's written in everyday language and is easy to use.

We cover the 5 essential skills necessary to do well on the TExES, plus a comprehensive review covering your specific TExES test.

Don't take our word for it. Listen to what our customers say about other Mometrix test preparation products.

I purchased the Secrets file, and I just wanted to let you know that I got a 99% on my test. I just want to thank you again, and hope you have continued success in your ventures. Sincerely, Paul L.

My name is Chris. I used the Secrets study guide for five days. The study guide made the test so easy to understand. Like you said this program is worth 100's of dollars. To me 1,000's!! THANKS, Chris G.

I just had to thank you guys for the test prep! I bought the guide as a last minute prep, I mean maybe 5 hours before the test. Like I said, I had ZERO preparation! I was nervous about the test let alone receiving the score I needed. I read the guide through only once before test time and needless to say, the only way I passed was thanks to your refresher!! Brian

Just dropping you a note to let you know that I am completely satisfied with the product. I had already taken the test once and landed in the 75 percentile of those taking it with me. I took the test a second time and used some of your tips and raised my score to the 97 percentile. Thanks for my much improved score. Denise W.

I heard about your website from a friend. I am enrolled in a review course, and in hindsight, I wish I wouldn't have taken my review course and instead spent a fraction of the money on your program. Thank you! Zac L.

You get at least 10 times your money's worth! --When you consider what's at stake with the exam, we believe the value of our study guide gives you at least ten times your money's worth.

Valuable study resource; covers all domains
By maria luisa santos
This book covers all the domains and provides detailed explanations for answers to the sample questions. Some of the materials that you can look up on the internet do not cover all the domains, nor do they always explain the reasons behind the answers. But this book does just that. The tips for preparing for the actual test are also very helpful. This is a valuable and effective resource to help you prepare for the exam. The practice test gives you a glimpse of what you to expect. I passed the exam on the first try.

Relief
By MLS
I am feeling so relieved at this point to have this product! I currently teach theatre, but I excel at painting. Knowing this, my principal has asked me to get certified to teach art over the summer so that we can have it next year. I am THRILLED about this, but terrified as well considering the fact that I have never in my life taken an art class. I know nothing of the actual techniques, history, movements, practitioners, etc. I flippantly took a couple of little practice tests to see where I stand on my own knowledge and did not fair well. I found that the "Secrets" study guide had some really good reviews from people who had already taken their exams and passed, so I decided to order it. When it came in the mail I was flooded with relief to see that the study guide contains all of this information (techniques, history, etc) condensed into quick chunks of relevant information that can be studied easily. Unlike the help you'll find in the TExES preparation manuals which only give you a HUGE list of textbooks to use. For starters, I can't afford to purchase all of them (I'm a teacher after all), and wouldn't know which ones to purchase if I wanted to get just a few, and for seconders, I'd need a couple of years to be able to study them all...in other words a degree in art! As soon as I've devoured this study guide a couple of times, I will return to the practice tests and expect to have MUCH better results! The people who put this manual together are obviously educators! They didn't just write a manual to try to make a financial profit, they wrote it using the best practices that an educator can in order to enable success for their students!

Review
"An Oriental Tom Jones." -- Newsweek

Liang Heng was born in 1954 in Changsha, a large city in Central China. His parents were intellectuals -- his father a reporter on a major provincial newspaper, his mother a ranking cadre in the local police. This is Liang Heng's own story of growing up in the turmoil of the Great Cultural Revolution. His story is unique, but at the same time it is in many ways typical of those millions of young Chinese who have been tested almost beyond endurance in recent years. In his words we hear an entire generation speaking.

"A poignant inside look at what happened to ordinary citizens when the movement that ousted Chiang Kaishek's totalitarianism turned against itself. Liang helps Americans understand the past that China's leaders must overcome to cope with the future."

-- The Chicago Sun-Times

"Three stories in one -- first, a graphic, I-was-there account of what it was like to grow up during the Cultural Revolution; second, a cliffhanger love story with a happy ending; and third, a poignant analysis of how Chinese people have tried and failed, and tried again, to break out of their past. Each of these accounts is worth reading on its own." -- The New York Review of Books

"A significant event in our understanding of China...compelling, detailed, and devastating."

A harrowing adventure of growing up in China 1954-80
By Chris
This book, by Liang Heng, apparently co-written by his wife Miss Shapiro, is a very quick read, one of those books with a well-flowing style to its prose and simplicity and power of its description. You don't want to put it down.

It is a story of how Liang Heng grew up as his family was torn apart by the ever changing and eratic policies enforce by the state of which Chariman Mao sat at the helm. He was probably about five when his mother was branded a rightist devationist. She had been encouraged to make criticisms of the party during the "Let one hundred flowers bloom" campaign and after honestly thinking it over, decided to criticize her bosses at the local police department for elitism and abuse of power. Of course, the Hundred Flowers campaign was eventually transformed into a rectification campaign. His mother was sent to the countryside, eventually being able to return once a month home to see her children and face the frenzied abuse of her husband, a very indocrinated, humorless, pious party member and journalist at the local state run paper. Liang's father for political safety eventaully got a new wife who, like the father, also had questionable associations and links with the old KMT regime. This new wife was posted as a school teacher in a far away city and due to bureaucratic restrictions on movement, they could not see each other for many years.

The most vivid parts of the book deal with the cultural revolution. Liang Feng as a zealous primary school student, initially lifted himself up at the beginning of this time by making cartoons of his teachers accusing them of being capitalist roader, bourgeois counterrevolutionaries, etc. But soon, his father got caught up in the trap because he was an intellectual, had briefly been part of a KMT group during the dark days of Chiang Kai Shek and the rapacious landlords before he was exposed to Maoism, and so on. Liang was branded a "stinking intellectual's son" and shunned and sometimes physically abused by his peers. His father was forced to go through many "struggle sessions" and paraded around town in a dunce cap.

The Cultural Revolution years are indeed described with the most simple and powerful indepth vivideness. The Cultural revolution for Liang had many harrowing adventures including his participation in mock long march and a stay in Peking to be part of a Red Guard group at a Musical conservatory during which period Liang caught a glimpse of Chairman Mao. Another episode deals with the armed combat of the rival "conservative" and "rebel" Red Guard groups and all sorts of splinter groups fighting for control of the city of Changsa, Liang's home town. Liang Heng gets caught in the middle of one battle and witnesses horrible death and destruction. He eventually joined a street gang made up of children of counterrevolutionaries and of communist china's lowest class, what Marx called the Lumpenproletariat. He spent some time being a cart pusher and custodian of a pig pen on a train, under the mentorship of the wise old migrant worker and street person Pockmarked Liu.

The climax of the book's vividness is probably when Liang Heng's father is transfered to the countryside for hard labor in a peasant commune. The particular commune where they are sent is in a very neglected area and the peasants very benighted. Liang's dad is assigned the duty of teaching Chairman Mao thought sessions to the peasants. Liang and his father are forced to live with a peasant and his wife, who have serious difficulty accomodating them. Unfortunately, Peking had launched another mass movement this time about elminating capitalist practices, and so the local leadership used the opportunity to harrass the peasants. The state gave this particular commune, in contrast to other areas, not much resources, and the peasants could only survive by raising revenue by selling produce from their livestock which was now being confiscated. During this episode, there are such notable incidents as Guo La Da' and the confiscation of his ducks. (...) The peasants in this commune seemed to be able to be more independent, beyond the reach of indoctrination if only because the government couldn't quite afford to put its tentacles into their remote area. Another incident deals with the hard suffering of Guo Lucky Wealth's wife, the wife of the peasant household they stayed in. She wanted to get pregnant but she had been manipulated into getting a birth control device put inside her. Guo Lucky Wealth's wife enlisted the services of a local witch doctor to make her fertile, but the witch doctor couldn't get quite the right potions.

After this point, the story loses some of its vividity as the events in his life are told more briefly. But it still is very interesting. By the early 70's, Liang Heng started to get some breaks, including being assigned a decent job at a factory to while he played for the factory's basketball team. He admits that though living standards on the whole improved(only slightly for all too many he claims) in China from the dark days of the KMT, he began to fully grasp that the cruelty, stratification and corruption in the economy and government in his society was quite different from the propaganda conception of what socialism was supposed to be. He tried to pursue girlfriends but his unfortunate political status ruined those relationship. Then he managed to get bribe his factory party officials and others to help him get accepted into college. This was after the lunacies of the Cultural revolution had died down and colleges were reoopened for competitive examination after the "Gang of Four" and their followers were purgedd after Mao's death. He eventually met Miss Shapiro who was working as a foreign language teacher at his college and fell in love with her. After college, his first postition was that of a school teacher and was dissapointed that though the post-Mao era was seemingly enacting great changes, the students he taught still exhibited the same inability to think critically that his generation had. The students still had alot of their time devoted to blindly memorizing the same silly Party slogans and being trained to worship the state, as Liang did as a youngster.

Simply told, poignant memoir of enormous events
By I. Westray
Son of the Revolution is a spare book, the sort of small biography you might pick up and read in a couple of days some weekend. It packs an enormous punch, though. Liang Heng, its author, experienced essentially every side of the cultural revolution in China, and his graceful, somewhat understated prose only acts as a sort of smooth surface to the roiling undercurrent of those huge events.
This book often gets assigned as a college-level textbook for History courses, and it's easy to see why. Liang Heng literally experienced almost everything about the cultural revolution first hand. In the course of the book, he lives both sides of almost any set of events you can think of. For example, as a young boy he's involved in a revolutionary group that's excitedly denouncing capitalist influences at its school. In a fit of enthusiasm, he draws a scathing poster of a favorite teacher. Almost immediately he feels tremendously guilty over the drawing. His father and he talk about the teacher's reaction, and Liang Heng goes to apologize. Then, just when the teacher's benevolence and the father's wisdom seem to have smoothed over this pang of overzealousness in the student, Liang Heng discovers that his father, too, has been denounced in a poster, and that he himself has been shut out of his revolutionary group -- as the son of an intellectual. Within a single day he's gone from revolutionary youth to excluded son of a reactionary. He goes home that night to find his sisters threatening to move away to live at school, so as to distance themselves from his supposedly traitorous father. His father sits whispering, almost to himself, that the children should sincerely believe in the party and Mao, and that things will turn out right if they do so.
This book is filled with tumultuous turns like that. Just when you've seen the sharp edge of one dilemma, it changes shape and presents another side. Throughout all those twists, Liang Heng keeps a sympathy for those around him that brings you through the book. He can understand why people caught in these events acted like they did, and he doesn't seem to really hate anyone for it despite all he's been through. His father and mother, who divorced early during the revolution because of his mother's political background, become very different objects of sympathy, but neither one is regarded with disdain. (His father, in particular, becomes the sort of quietly tragic figure you'd find in some sprawling Russian historical novel.)
Other English language memoirs from these years in China don't approach the startling emotional clarity of this book. Life and Death in Shanghai, in particular, comes across as both shallower and more bitter. Son of the Revolution tells the entire story, first hand, with a sort of forgiveness, a sort of understanding, that I haven't forgotten in the six years since I first read it.
This is worth a rare (for me) five stars.

Angela's Ashes in Red China
By Rottenberg's rotten book review
When consolidating their rule over the most populous nation on Earth, the Red Chinese sought to create a modern industrialized state in place of a feudal and disorganized one. Requiring more than rapid industrialization to realize their goals, the communists also sought to suffuse every sector of Chinese society with rigid political mentality requiring not only strict party loyalty, but a state of constant revolution, in which individuals and communities constantly sought to prove their mastery of "revolutionary discipline". Various miniature revolutions shake China - turning friends and relatives against each other - with fearful consequences for those who couldn't convince the more politically reliable of their strongly "revolutionary" desires. Because the meaning of the revolution itself is vague, even those who would have thought their backgrounds free of "black marks", find themselves under the gun - whether because of views an individual no longer professes, or association with others having displayed a lack of revolutionary discipline or simply because one may comply with a dictate only to find the Party changed direction completely.
Liang Heng, whose birth coincided with Ho Chi Minh's epic victory over the French in 1954, suffered for all the above reasons. Never a "rightist" himself, Heng suffered horribly during China's ten year political unrest of the 1960's and 70's. Heng's mother, a loyal party member in the late 1950's, reluctantly obeys the party's order to criticize superiors during the "Hundred Flowers" movement. Heng, like many, is never sure if the follow-up to the "Flowers" (in which those who faithfully criticized their elders were then rounded up for their insuboridination) was a knee jerk reaction to the unexpected ferocity the earlier campaign engendered, or whether the earlier movement was intended to weed out those critics to begin with. Only the consequences - in which Heng's mother must wear the feared "rightist cap", forever soilng her revolutionary record and that of her family - is considered. When Heng's father, who writes for the Hunan daily, becomes suspect for his admitted youthful infatuation with the nationalistic Koumintang, the family's political reputation suffers even more. Though loyal communists, Heng finds his father's name listed as an enemy on the many revolutioanry placards around their home city of Changsha. The Party maxim's - stressing tolerance for those whose backgrounds evince youthful mistakes - does little for Heng, since the revolution is guided by fervor and not nuance. And, though Maosim meant that party loyalty superceded family loyalty (sorry Confucious), it didn't prevent family members from suffering for political sins of family members.
Through the turmoil - which evolves from parades to open warfare in the street using everything from sticks and stones to missiles - Heng avoids sanctimony. Heng suffered much of the chaos as a child, and isn't above admitting that he too wrote some revolutionary placards himself. He works hard to rehabilitate his father whose first major action is to cast out Heng's mother for her "rightist cap". Experience proved the decision, for its pain, proved correct, if insufficient, to protect the family. "Old Liang" himself suffered mightily for the cause, never once complaining. As a middle-aged exile, forced to bring the revolution to the peasants by joing them, Heng's father survived the indiginities of a country-bound city-types, never pausing to warm the lives of the peasants with Marxist fervor. Heng's private revolution, unlike the larger one surrounding him, is about nuance, and the narrative never attempts to surpass the perspective of a child of Heng's age during the cultural revolution. Like the more recent "Angela's Ashes", Heng knows that the more credible narrator is the one who feels and experiences rather than faithfully records. And the experience, rather than one of victimization is of survival. The revolution's true enemies are long gone by the time the cultural revolution degenerates into civil war, and only Heng's clear and non-judgmental narrative can spot that the war's victims and instigators are one and the same.

Review
"This textbook will remain a staple in the educational setting for both student and teacher. If an O&P student needs one book on gait, this is that book. For practitioners, the textbook is a ready reference that can augment existing knowledge and inform clinical practice."

— Bryan Malas, MHPE, CO

"The greatest strength of the new edition lies in its logical, reorganized content presentation, which seamlessly interweaves the old and new into a single comprehensive text the practitioner will find valuable in both its breadth and currency. As with the first edition, this textbook will remain a staple in the educational setting for both student and teacher alike. If an O&P student needed one book on gait, this would be that book. For practitioners, the textbook is a ready reference that can augment existing knowledge and inform clinical practice."

— Bryan Malas, MHPE, CO, American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists

"...in summary, this second edition includes several excellent additions to a classic textbook which should be on the book shelf of ever postgraduate student studying human gait, and every physiotherapist with a specific interest in gait analysis."

– Marietta van der Linden, Physiotherapy

"This is a first-class publication on a very important subject not discussed as commonly as other issues in orthopedics. The authors are well-known experts and the book is the result of vast clinical and research experience. This is the best book available on gait analysis."

– Riad Barmada, MD, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, Doody Enterprises, Inc.

"Gait Analysis: Normal and Pathological Function is a comprehensive text for basic gait analysis, systematically covering the fundamental components of normal and pathological gait. The clinical focus of this text makes it a useful resource for clinicians and students of all levels."

— Dr. Vivienne Chuter,University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, Physical Therapy Reviews

"Their excellent and subtle changes have enhanced the book’s value, both as a primer and as an encyclopedic reference on gait. The authors allude to what the observer "sees." New methods of gait analysis have more accurately characterized various parts of the gait cycle. Chapter 9 is really a summary chapter of the first part of the book, which covers normal gait. Valuably, it sums up the parts and puts them together. This chapter integrates the total limb function at each phase of gait, elevating observation to a more sophisticated understanding. The use of clinical photographs continues and helps readers relate the illustrated point to a patient or series of patients being treated- an especially valuable feature. The chapters on kinetics, running, and stride are updated and valuable. The chapter on dynamic EMGs has been expanded to discuss the relation of muscle control to the various aspects of gait, both normal and abnormal—an essential concept. Reading the first part of Gait Analysis: Normal and Pathological Function will add dimension to observing gait and will be ideal for providing readers having an advanced interest with a more complete and clear technical understanding. In either instance, reading this text and comprehending the data make this text clinically pragmatic and worthwhile."

– Alfred D. Grant, MD, NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York, NY, JAMA

About the Author
Jacquelin Perry, MD’s interest in gait began in college (UCLA). A major in physical education (1935-1940) introduced her to anatomy and provided a strong background in kinesiology with application to sports. Part of this experience was her attendance at the Physical Therapy Clinic of the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital where she began her exposure to disability. Subsequently, she became a physical therapist (Walter Reed Army Hospital, 1941), which expanded her knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and disability.  Her physical therapy experience in Army hospitals during World War II provided a broad clinical experience (1941-1945). In addition to working with a regular flow of trauma patients, she spent 2 years at a center that had Army programs for poliomyelitis and rheumatoid arthritis. All 3 clinical areas involved a great deal of informal observational gait analysis as one sought to improve the patient’s ability to walk. During most of this time, she was also an instructor at two of the Army schools of physical therapy (Hot Springs, AR and Denver, CO). There she taught anatomy, kinesiology, and therapeutic exercise as well as the modalities. Both normal and disabled gait were strong elements of this program.  After the war ended, she used her GI bill to go to medical school (UC San Francisco, 1946-1950) for the specific purpose of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon. Dr. Perry’s residency in orthopaedic surgery (UCSF, 1951-1955) occurred during the period when poliomyelitis and reconstructive surgery were strong clinical programs. Observational gait analysis and experience in correcting disabled gait became daily practice.

Her next move was to join the staff of the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. In 1955, poliomyelitis was the entire focus of the rehabilitation program. Disability of lower limbs, spine, and arms were all major concerns while bracing and reconstructive surgery received equal emphasis. Working with this program further expanded her knowledge of muscle function and gait disability. In addition, her experience in observing polio survivors exposed her to a number of different gait patterns as the type of paralysis resulting from this disease varies from patient to patient.  Following introduction of the Salk vaccine, polio was conquered so Dr. Perry and her colleagues redirected their attention to other types of chronic impairments. This change was the beginning of their intensive rehabilitation program for spinal cord injury, hemiplegia, arthritis, and children’s disorders (primarily muscular dystrophy, myelodysplasia and cerebral palsy). Later, amputee and problem back services were added. At first, the program was for general rehabilitation. Then as the patient groups became large, they formed separate clinical categories with a ward for each (1961). While continuing the polio spine surgery program, Dr. Perry also developed a stroke unit.

Responsibility for persons disabled by a stroke forced her to expand her analysis process, as the functional pathology of individuals with hemiplegia is much more complex than that of polio. Because the standard clinical examination findings correlated poorly with the gait dysfunctions, a system of observational gait analysis was initiated. Developed in conjunction with a group of knowledgeable and dedicated physical therapists, the Rancho Los Amigos Observational Gait Analysis System became highly organized. For the first time, there was a means of cataloging the multiple dysfunctions that occur with the various types of pathology. For the past 25 plus years, they have taught this program nationwide. The organizational background of this book is based on this program.

A second development was the gait laboratory (1968). Its initial purpose was to document the improvement from reconstructive surgery in patients who could not be returned to normal function based on traditional rehabilitation therapy. This system was designed to help ascertain whether surgery actually was the better alternative for these patients. Out of this beginning was developed a functional diagnostic system to be used for planning the reconstructive surgery of patients with spasticity. The emphasis of the program was, and still is, kinesiological electromyography because the primary disability of patients with spasticity is inappropriate muscle action (errors in timing and intensity). Footswitches were developed to define the patient’s stride characteristics, and an electrogoniometer to record joint motion during gait also was developed. Clinical service and research have had equal emphasis from the beginning. Another novel emphasis has been on energy cost analysis of walking. An outdoor court was designed where habitual gait could be studied (Dr. Robert Waters spearheaded this). Today, the Pathokinesiology Laboratory at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center is fully equipped with automated motion analysis (CODA™), force plates and walking aids instrumented with force transducers. All types of disability have been studied over the years and continue to be seen as the clinical need increases (cerebral palsy, hemiplegia, spinal cord injury, post polio, arthritis, joint replacement, amputees, myelodysplasia, and muscular dystrophy).

During her career, Dr. Perry has received numerous awards for her pioneering work in many areas of gait and orthopaedics. She received the Kappa Delta Award (Orthopedic Research Society, 1976) for landmark work with dynamic electromyography to define muscle function in cerebral palsy and the Isabelle and Leonard H. Goldson Award in Technology (United Cerebral Palsy Research and Education Foundation, 1981). She was a Shands Lecturer (American Orthopaedic Association, 1988) and received the Shands Award (Orthopaedic Research Society, 1999). Dr. Perry received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society (2000) and The Scoliosis Research Society (2008). In December of 2008, the University of Southern California dedicated the Jacquelin Perry Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory in her honor. Dr. Perry continues her lifelong dedication to the research and clinical application of gait. This publication encompasses the extensive work of Dr. Perry and her successful years as a therapist and a surgeon renowned for her expertise in human gait.

Judith M. Burnfield, PhD, PT is a most welcome co-author. She has excellent analytical skills and has an outstanding command of words. In addition, her scientific preparation and professional experience give her a unique perspective of impaired gait.

Dr. Burnfield’s interest in gait began during a clinical internship in 1986 on the Arthritis Service at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (Rancho). The analytic process encouraged during weekly gait sessions (many led by Dr. Perry) tapped into her investigative nature. Following graduation from the Physical Therapy Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo (1986), Dr. Burnfield accepted a position at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. Her initial work on the Ortho-Diabetes Service further sparked her passion for understanding gait. Differentiating the influence of human impairments from prosthetic alignment factors was essential for improving patient’s walking ability and helped her develop a greater appreciation for the role alignment, forces, and moments have on walking performance. During this period, Dr. Burnfield started teaching a course on prosthetics and orthotics in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Cerritos College (Norwalk, CA). Gait was a central component of the course.

Subsequent work on the Stroke Service, Gerontology Service, and in the Polio Clinic at Rancho expanded her knowledge related to the profound impact of weakness on movement disorders. It also highlighted the body’s exquisite versatility to compensate when sensation and control mechanisms remained intact (eg, with polio). Dr. Burnfield developed a strong appreciation for the role of lower extremity orthoses in promoting independence, particularly when the device’s capabilities were systematically matched to each patient’s unique impairments. During this period, Dr. Burnfield engaged in formal training to become a Rancho Gait Instructor. She then led gait sessions at Rancho and started teaching workshops around the country for therapists and physicians.

In 1996, Dr. Burnfield left her position as Director of Physical Therapy at Rancho to commence graduate studies in Biokinesiology at the University of Southern California (USC). Her doctoral research, under the advisement of Dr. Christopher Powers, focused on human and environmental factors contributing to slips and falls during walking. She co-developed and taught the introductory and then advanced observational gait analysis courses for students enrolled in the clinical doctorate of physical therapy program at USC. At the time of her enrollment in USC’s Biokinesiology program, she also pursued a position as a research physical therapist working in the Pathokinesiology Laboratory at Rancho due to her desire to enhance her clinical research skills related to normal and pathologic gait. Her work in the latter environment focused on clinical and research studies quantifying gait abnormalities through the analysis of kinematic (motion), kinetic (moment) and electromyographic (muscle activity) data. The unique research and teaching experiences in the two environments complimented each other well and provided a framework for her role instructing Biomechanics and subsequently Kinesiology in the Physical Therapy Program at Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles.

Following completion of her doctoral studies, Dr. Burnfield engaged in a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Jacquelin Perry. This mentorship had a profound influence on Dr. Burnfield’s professional development for which she is most grateful. This focused period of inquiry provided a strong foundation for their subsequent collaboration on the second edition of this book.

In October 2004, Dr. Burnfield joined Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. She serves as Director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering, Director of the Movement and Neurosciences Center and the Clifton Chair in Physical Therapy and Movement Sciences. Dr. Burnfield has developed a dynamic research laboratory that capitalizes on the close proximity of patients and clinicians, a strong network of research collaborators internally as well as from universities and industry, and a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students willing and eager to learn and contribute. Research efforts focus on developing and studying new treatments and technologies to help individuals with physical disabilities walk, exercise, and live more independently. The fully instrumented Chapin Gait and Motion Laboratory within the Movement and Neurosciences Center includes state-of-the art technology and software for conducting biomechanical and physiological analyses of movement function including a twelve-camera infrared motion analysis system, 16-channel and 10-channel portable electromyography technology, four force platforms, a footswitch system and plantar pressure mapping technology, and a 30-meter walkway with an overhead safety support track and full-body harness system.

Dr. Burnfield holds adjunct faculty appointments at Creighton University, University of Nebraska– Lincoln, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and the University of Southern California. In addition to a vigorous research agenda, Dr. Burnfield continues to teach gait in the academic setting and presents both nationally and internationally on gait and rehabilitation related topics.

Showing the fascinating complexity of Gait Analysis
By Ulrich Vissering
A previous writers tries to tell us, that gait analysis with our own eyes and understanding is outdated in a high tech world. I disagree. As it is true for many steps in the process of finding the reasons of disorder and disfunction and working on solutions, as medical doctor or as physiotherapist, it is allways the core of real quality if one understands by himself and his education in the field, what some high tech apparatus tries to tell him, sometimes telling it wrong. So giving up all your knowledge and expertise into the hands of a computer, or even showing that you have no interest to get this knowledge in the first place, is a sure way to failure in the medical field. And by the way, gait analysis isnt some dry, boring stuff, in fact, it is fascinating to realize how very important it is to be able to identify the different stages of this very short moment, to find the fitting solution for your therapy. I am just a beginner after completing a first course in gait analysis lead by a german pupil of Jacquelin Perry, and as a doctor in a rehab clinic I can tell you, its very up to date. And talking about the high tech world, who is able to buy a technical system, the hard- and software for gait analysis, for example as a simple practitioner? Better take your time to get some education by experienced gait instructors, read this book and all what you need is in your head and hands, plus eventually a small camera to make a short clip for analysis and presentation on a Monitor.

Great book! Highly recommended
By Joseph Nesser
Love this book! It reminds me of the Neumanns kinesiology - clear, concise and to the point. The book does not overwhelm you with too many words on each page, and the illustrations are very helpful.

An excellent easy to read and understand guide to gait
By John M. Lahr
An excellent easy to read and understand guide to gait. Uses very simplistic line drawings that easily detail specific parts of the cycle as well as how the parts all work together. A def for anyone that needs to understand gait and gait analysis.
